My program is designed to meet the individual needs of children in the areas of physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social development. Children learn through play and working with this philosophy, children master the skills that give them the readiness to move onto Kindergarten/Life, with confidence and positive self-worth. They are taught good manners, independence and respect every day.
It is my job as a caregiver to provide a happy, safe and clean learning environment to all children enrolled and supply safe, age appropriate equipment, supplies, toys and activities to those under my care.
My goal is to provide a high quality, nurturing and safe learning environment for your child(ren) that will help him/her grow into a wonderful, curious, and happy person. I maintain a structured daily program with regards to meals, rest time and activities because I believe children do best when they can predict how their day will go. Good manners and respect for people and material are greatly valued in my home.
Outings to parks, playgroups, museums, libraries, kindergyms, nature walks, and other exciting places throughout Victoria are all a part of what makes Garderie Pomme D’Api Daycare a fun place for your child to be. A monthly calendar is sent home to notify parents in advance when these trips will take place so you can prepare your child for the day. (Spontaneous trips around Victoria will also occur almost every week). This calendar also lets the parents know which theme we will explore that month along with any special days.
I value kindergarten readiness more so than academics. Throughout my years working in schools in all grades, I have spent a lot of time in kindergarten and have seen the importance of teaching kindergarten readiness. This consists of getting the children ready for kindergarten by learning essential skills the teachers won't have much time to teach one-on-one, example: learning to properly hold and use scissors, pencils, markers and glue sticks, learning to sit still on a rug for group stories and activities, how to line up at the door and the bathroom, how to dress oneself, how to unzip their lunch bags, open containers by themselves, learning to wait for their turns, be as independent as their age will let them, learn to stand up for themselves, learn to play alone for a bit, practice to follow simple set of instructions and directives, etc. It's all those skills that will lead them to sucess during their first year of school.
From my personal experience in schools and from the opinions of the kindergarten teachers I have worked with, if the children know too much academically when entering kindergarten, they tend to lose focus, misbehave, because they are bored, and still lack all those important skills listed above.
I do however touch base on some of the academic basics. Our weekly Show and Tell consists of learning the letters and their sounds, we do colours, shapes, numbers, textures, etc. I take every opportunity that presents itself to make it a learning experience, even if I need to catch a garden snake crawling by while we play outside so I can show the kids, I will put on my brave girl pants and do it! We practice counting and tracing throughout different activities.
Be assured I do all that is necessary and more to have my littles ready for school.
